Understanding Autoimmunity

Millions of people across the globe suffer from autoimmunity, a wide range of diseases that occur when the immune system turns against the body. I confess, I have two family members, a few close friends, and a handful of acquaintances who suffer from a variety of autoimmune diseases; until recently, I had no idea how these diseases actually work.

Registered Nurse and master massage therapist, Tiffany Diaz-Linam changed that. We are fortunate to represent her as her publisher so I got to read an advanced copy of her book. In Understanding Autoimmunity, Tiffany breaks down how different autoimmune diseases, the most common include: type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, inflammatory bowel diseases, Addison’s disease, Grave’s disease, celiac disease, and autoimmune diseases of the skin. She also explains how these diseases may be triggered, what you can do to ease symptoms, how diet can alleviate symptoms, and how to safely incorporate massage in your health care plan. This book, while a great reference for massage therapists, is beneficial for anyone suffering from an autoimmune disease.

Tiffany touches on how diet can help you manage your symptoms and how to communicate your needs to your massage therapist.

So, if you have an autoimmune disease, know someone who does, or are just curious about how your body works, this book is for you.
