6.4: Summa' Summa' Summa' Time
You guys, today is the day! The final book in the Ermhagerd Merstery series is available NOW. Here's the link.
So, if you've been paying attention at all, you know that this whole endeavor began as a joke. Lynx & LeRoux would not exist except for a couple of, turns out, fortunate events. In February of 2018, we took a little trip to Dickson Street Bookshop with another friend who was moving away in March of 2018. This friend is the reason this all happened. Seriously. She misread a book title, we laughed, and all the way home we talked about how funny it would be if a dorky girl with a mild speech impediment kept finding bodies. We were cracking ourselves up but, honestly, that's totally normal. We're funny gals. So, friend moved away and we kept talking about it. And kept talking about it. And talked about it some more. In a move that is totally unlike us, we decided to actually follow through. Look, if we followed through on all our ideas, there would be a line of swimsuits that covered your entire ass no matter how big that ass is and boxes with scandalous pictures on them so the paparazzi think they really have something on you when you're simply carrying in a new set of dishes. Back to the books.
So, in July of 2018, we had a meeting where we outlined Fall; we thought it would be a real gag to release it in September and mail our friend a copy. Done. Over with. We created absurd pen names to keep our friend off the scent, and because we are both introverts who felt the need to hide behind Smoky and Charlaine, and we got to it. Once we started working, the characters really came to life, the outline was set on fire, and thrown out the window. Then we thought it'd be cute to pay homage to Stephen King and do a play on Different Seasons, meaning we would have to write three more books. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezey, right? For the most part, it was. Other times, it was hard, hard, lemon difficult. But we did it. We wrote four books between July of 2018 and April of 2019. In those ten months, we grew to love the characters and the town of Spring Valley. We thought of new ideas to expand the Lynx & LeRouxniverse. And by expand I mean there are roughly fifteen book ideas on our storyboard and we come up with new ones every time we meet. So, stay tuned, Lynx & LeRouxnatics, this is not the end for Kimmy Livengood...or is it? MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. (It is a mystery series, after all.)
To those who have read the books, a sincere thank you. Seriously. When we wrote this thing, we had an audience of one in mind. We never expected anyone else to read the dang thing. So, again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Even Smoky's.
So, our advice to you, readers, is this, if you have an idea that's nagging at you, embrace it. If you have an idea in the works that's not working for you, don't be afraid to let go of that outline. Let. It. Go. If we had stuck to our original outline, our books would be actually dumb instead of on purpose dumb. If you need to create an absurd front to get over your stage fright, do it. Being Smoky Lynx is one of the greatest things that's every happened to me. And getting to do it with one of my oldest friends is just the best. Alright, enough origin story, buy the books, read the books, review the books. Puhlease.
